He certainly does, but in this song it was mainly used on chords. In Texas flood he would sometimes use it on single notes, and a LOT in Say What.

That’s a good question. In this case, I’m actually doing the muting with my right hand as I sweep the pick down towards the high E string. I do this by having the side of my hand hit the strings and rest there right before I hit them with the pick. But I only rest it on the 4 lowest strings, I let the top 2 strings open because I’m picking the 2nd highest string.

( I refer to the low E string as the lowest and the high E string as the highest because of their notes. Some people call the low E string the highest string because of it’s position at the top of the fretboard, but that’s not the convention i use. )

Amazing site! Great learning on SRV techniques. I am determined to get the raking technique down. Can you please detail which fingers are muting which strings on your Lenny vibrato rake? When I try it, I can mute the 6th and 5th strings with my thumb and the 1st and 3rd with my other fingers but the D-string is stubborn and rings out no matter what I try. Do you actually rake all 6 strings when you hammer on to the F# w/vibrato?

Again - great work. Love your sound. Keep it coming.
