Lesson 24 - Texas Flood Intro - El Mocambo Version

January 23rd, 2008

In this lesson I show you how to play the intro to Texas Flood from the Live at El Mocambo DVD.  This involves a couple chords and a variation of the riff I taught in the very first lesson called “A Foundational SRV Riff”.

Great lesson, Anthony! Just worked through this Mocambo intro. I’d previously toyed around with the studio version, but I like this version much better.
I’m hoping you can provide more of the Mocambo version in the future! I could do the slow playback of my Mocambo dvd and pick up the notes that way, but thats… much harder :).

How do you like the Fralin blues specials in comparison to the stock Fender Alnico 5’s? What’s the biggest difference in tone between the two? Your tone is fantastic, btw.

Awesome lesson. I just bought the full version and plan on practicing it also. The Basic riff lesson helped me out lots and after seeing it on your site everything just seems to be coming together.

    Hi Anthony.
Been on your site for a few weeks and love it.
Your buy the lessons with tabs is a great idea.
Hopefully you’ll set it up with Paypal, that would be the best way to do it. Can’t wait for the “buy it now” buttons to work. Hope thats soon.

    Hi Scott,

I’m really sorry about the links, I must have screwed something up when I was adding the “Lenny Bundle” to the store. All the links work now, and it is through Paypal so it’s really easy.

Let me know if you see anything else I screwed up on the site :)

    Hi Mike

On the lesson #24 and also the subsequent ones I love the sound (TONE) of your Strat. What year is it and what equptment ie string gages, amp, and any pedals are you using. For playing many years I know that a good amount of the sound comes from ones own hands and their playing style. You have that SRV sound pretty close. Good lessons.

    Hey Chuck,

my name is actually Anthony, and for all my equipment specs, you can check out the FAQs from the main menu of the site. Also on some of my gear demos I list settings I used to record them.

    Thanks for watching!

Beastly. How do you get that chug sound in the begining?

    You and your beastly comments….hehe

Not sure what you mean by chug, can you elaborate?

Jorge reply on January 25th, 2008:

Dude I dont know what you mean by chug but i imagine you are talking about raking? Thats the only thing that I can think about that would make a chug sound I guess. And if so, you just mute the strings b4 the one you strike, and hit the muted ones at the same time you hit the one that will create resonance.

Anthony Stauffer reply on January 25th, 2008:

If you’re referring to the “raking” sound that Jorge is talking about, check out the lesson called “The Rake”. Just type in rake in the Lesson Finder and you’ll see it pop up.

I think it is that twangy sounds when you pluck it hard enough, or the fatter strings Stevie uses.

I have to tell people, I bought this same lesson from Lick Libray for $4.50 and it was nowhere near as good as this one. Anthony is the only person I know that uses the correct angle to show the instruction. Also, his way of eplaining what he is doing is so much better.

I know that I will buy these lessons for now on and skip the others.

Thanks for all of this Anthony!!

    Hi everyone,

I have purchased this lessons for 3$. The transaction was smooth. The lesson was downloaded without a glitch and the quality of the video is A1.

Support this site, it is well worth it.

    Thanks Anthony.
