StevieSnacks goes Hi-Def ( kind of )

February 12th, 2008

This weekend I got  a chance to put my Canon HG-10 through it’s paces.  I was totally blown away the by quality of the video.  My most recent lesson is offered in HD (960×540) in the video download store, and the difference in quality is astounding.  I can now offer lesson downloads that are much smaller in size, even though the video quality is much higher.  To give you an idea of the level of quality you’ll get, I’ve put up an HD Video Sample page.  On this page you’ll see a 1 minute streaming excerpt from my latest lesson in the exact quality that the download will be.

I realize that 960×540 is not true HD, but my primary concern is that people be able to watch the videos without any playback problems.  Moving the resolution up to 1280×720 could introduce some playback problems for some people, so I want to see how this works out first.

Why should you care?

The beauty of video lessons is the visual communication of what’s being done.  I find higher quality video allows me to see in much better detail what’s being done.  This is not just for the sake of having HD video, it’s being done to help people see as clearly as possible what’s being taught.

Cool, you rock…or , should I say, you blues! Keep em’ coming and you & I (and PAYPAL) will become wicked bestest buddies! Not to ask too much…but if/when you continue with the “box” lessons could you spend a bit more time riffing in box 3 ? It seems to be a brick wall for me. And viva “Life Without You”…I’ve got a crip $20 with your name on it (wink and a nod…)

No need to fear. Once I move into more detail about each of the boxes, the old, and superior camera angle will return!
