Lesson 39 - Original Ballad Solo WalkthroughMay 3rd, 2008 |
Details
When I play a song like the original ballad I used to demonstrate the Blues Junior Amp, there’s so many things that go on in the process of playing that never get explained. This lesson takes you through that entire solo, with a play-by-play explanation of what boxes I’m playing in, why I hit certain notes when I do, how what I’m playing relates to different things I learned from Stevie, and lots of other details.
While I don’t get into specific notes to play, I talk about everything else that often gets overlooked by advanced players when they try to explain what they are doing to other players.
The free video is the first 10 minutes, but the full video is almost 30 minutes, and you get more details than I really planned on putting in the lesson.
Gear
The gear used in this video is the same as the original demonstration video because I’m just talking my way through the original video.

Although I wish the HD would work here on my computer(the audio and video won’t sync) the other video format Anthony includes with the lessons , dare i say “regular’ as the name escapes me , works great and when you enlarge it it’s quite sufficient. I don’t watch the HD previews here, I go to You Tube and then decide if i want the full lesson. Anthony covers all bases here, and i like the regular video format though I do download the HD just in case my pc starts doing it right !

Hi Tim,
I’m actually working on a way for people to watch the videos here in HD or regular so nobody will have problems with them. As for the lessons people buy, I do always suggest people download the HD versions even if they don’t play quite right on older computers. This way you can watch the smaller versions now, and in the future, whenever you make the decision to get a new computer, you’ll still have the HD lessons to play.

I’ve considered buying lessons, I like the way you teach and the details. Most of the things i’ve seen on your site play fine but this Lesson 39 - Original Ballad Solo Walkthrough music playing parts play for about 5 seconds and then there is a pause for 10 or more seconds then it begins playing again. This is very annoying. I don’t know if the problem is my computer or the way you recorded it, as this does not happen all most of your recordings. Can you offer any explination and/or cure/fix?

Hi Greg,
Part of this is due to the high quality of video I’m embedding on this page. I too have seen the same problem and am working to resolve it. I do want the videos on this site to have much better quality than people are used to, but not at the expense of playing smoothly. You should see an improvement in the future

Just something to think about, but you brought up a really good point early in the walkthrough: ending on notes that are complimentary to the chords in the background. I’ve found this is really crucial toward developing a melodic style. I guess what I’m getting at.. if for whatever reason you’re tempted to make a lesson.. say, explaining some licks you do that fall before the one chord plays, the four chord, the five chord, etc. Explaining some licks, target notes, etc. If for whatever reason you were tempted to make a lesson on that.. that’d be wonderful. That’s all I’m saying. Something to think about, ya’ know. Just trying to plant some seeds.. heh.
