New StevieSnacks SloganAugust 3rd, 2008 |
Adding to yesterday’s updates to the lesson categorization, I’m introducing a new slogan for StevieSnacks today.
“Express Yourself”
The reason for this is simple. I believe that’s what Stevie Ray Vaughan’s style of playing is all about. Expressing yourself. Some may say that there are too many people copying his style, but I ask the question “why is that?”. Why do so many guitar players work so hard to emulate this one guitar player?
Is it for the money? Hardly. Is it for the fame? Good luck, you’re one among thousands. Is it because it’s easy? Forget it.
I think the more likely reason lies in the things that most people feel but don’t say. The hurt that everyone experiences at some point in their life. And the happiness that most people seek. Stevie’s playing embodied all those things, and it inspires people to try and do the same. Sure they start by copying his style, some even copy his look. But whether it’s the teenager on YouTube, who thinks he’ll be the next Stevie Ray someday, or the SRV Impersonator wearing the hat and all the getup, I think it all comes from a desire to be able to express oneself the way that Stevie did.
This site is not about me, it’s about helping people find that place.

Hey Anthony - I’m eaten up with blues and blues guitar. A guy I work with hosts a blues show here and knows I’m serious about building my chops and told me about your site - I can’t thank you enough! This is the best instruction site for building blues chops I’ve found on the web, hands down. I’ve been trying desperately to break out and express myself, not only with SRV style licks and phrases, but flat out BLUES baby!! You’ve inspired me and shown me how to take it to another level. I can’t thank you enough! - Dave

That is a cool slogan. Wait … didn’t Stevie say that in 1985 live at the montreux? Mysteries, you know.

Stevie feel the blues like no one, he got the style, he have everything. He got the vibe that every body want to have. I think that there’s no guitarist who never dream to have is tuch. He’s a inspiration, a way to follow. Like Django did a long time ago, he push people to go over there limits and develop a new style. It’s not a style to emulate but a style to puch to the next level.
Thats the way I like Stevie and the road I want to follow…
Thank Anthony to make it possible!

May be I now out of place…
For me personally SRV style is not to be emulated, and it is not target. Stevie has very close to me melodic style, a sense of musical harmony.
Once again, thank You again, Anthony, that gave the opportunity to get those tools that allow play the way I hear it inside themselves, express myself
Sorry, my English is very bad

While some people adopt his technique and licks more directly than others, I think what you say holds true for many people.

It’s all about finding your own voice within the styles of the players who inspire you to play every day. What Anthony has done is bring SRV’s techniques and style to players who were seeking it. He has done a wonderful job at that ! It can also start you on a journey to listen to the players who inspired Stevie. I liken it to the more tools you have in your toolbox the better, however you must have a “toolbox”. The knowlege of how to use the tools and what you can do with them. So learn and listen and have fun doing it, thats what these lessons have meant for me. It was a fine night when i discovered StevieSnacks. Thanks Anthony.
