enlightening, especially with your references to your early playing. I highly doubt any of your early songs were “really bad”…. I’m using this ending on a Derek and The Dominos song that i saw on YouTube which ends on the 9th chord when i play it a gig at the end of the month.
Very cool lesson. I learned a variation of this lick back when I first studied Texas Flood, and this is certainly a new and refreshing way of looking at this style of ending. One theory related question though, do you know why this fits into the song? For example, Texas Flood is in Gb Minor, but the lick doesn’t seem to neatly fall into either the minor pentatonic, or the major (like Lenny’s ending). Going beyond those scales is a talent that Stevie rarely showcases, so I’m curious what scale this is derived from and/or why it works here.
I stumbled across your free Youtube videos by accident and what a discovery. I bought the 5 Essential Blues boxes and lesson 44. That series of lessons has made a huge improvement in my playing. I feel like I am finally making progress in raising the level of my playing and understanding of how to move up and down the fret board. Thank you so much..
Let me just start by saying how much your lessons have helped me! Up until today I was fairly good at playin the blues, I thought……..I have now played for a couple of hours especially the 2 and 4 boxes, and I´ve learned more today then I´ve learned the last 5 years — Stefan
