About StevieSnacks

Today

StevieSnacks is a site where I share my love for blues guitar through lessons that are watched by people around the world.  I pour my heart and soul into my premium lesson series, which have been used by guitarists of all ages in many different countries.  There are also a lot of free blues lessons on this site as well.

Style

Most of what I teach is inspired, and heavily influenced by by the playing of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan.  While I never met Stevie or saw him play, I spent years in front of my CD player, and TV learning everything I could.  I am far from the best at imitating his style, and to be truthful, my interpretation of his playing definitely 'leans' a bit.  There are entire genres of his playing that I don't even touch on here, because I never learned those songs.  So what you learn here is definitely filtered through my own years of playing.

Origins

I had always wanted to teach someone what I learned on guitar.  When I started figuring out Stevie's music, it was like discovering a hidden treasure.  I didn't know why his playing made sense to me, but it was like doing math problems in my head.

I had always thought that someday, maybe I'd put together a DVD series teaching how I piece together solos from smaller licks, but it always seems like a huge undertaking.  Also I was too obsessed with "making it" as a guitar player. Becoming famous.  Touring.

Eventually I realized that that kind of life would take me away from some things I really love.  Like working with computers.  Like my family.  So I stopped chasing that dream, and soon after, I had this crazy idea to start teaching short lessons on YouTube.  This proved to be much more popular than I ever imagined, and before you know it, StevieSnacks was born, and I started making longer lesson series.

I finally had found a way to teach what I had always wanted.  The concept that really put this site on the map was the 5 Essential Blues Boxes, a concept that I had used for years in soloing.  When I started putting out those lessons in early 2008, it was apparent that there were a lot of guitar players searching for a coherent way to approach this style of playing.

I continued to use this concept in some later series, and in April of 2009, I released the Essential Fretboard series which encapsulated the 5 Essential Boxes in a larger view of the fretboard.
